ABOUT US

Teaching Buddies was founded in July 2020 to provide a free weekly reading and writing enrichment program for students most negatively affected in low-income areas in Chicago. Our trained college volunteers (“teaching buddies”) provide free classes in writing and critical thinking for rising 1st - 8th graders in classes of 1-5 students. Together, we will help your child write short stories, read deeply, and learn important thinking skills to be prepared for the future.

Our mission is to inspire confidence in learning for underserved K-8 students in Chicago communities through teaching by college role models.

OUR IMPACT SO FAR

Since our founding, we have trained over 100 volunteers to give lessons in critical thinking through reading and writing, cumulating in 500+ volunteer hours with almost 100 1st-8th grade students from the Chicago Public School system, 70% of whom live in families that qualify for free/reduced lunch programs.
